Services for Research

Our large-scale computing and data analytics services are helping scientists to accelerate the process leading to research outputs.

Our services are provided by EGI’s federated cloud providers and data centres. They can be requested by everyone involved in academic research.

Diversity Of Data Cloud

Apply for access with EGI-ACE sponsorship

With this call for use cases, the EGI-ACE project offers individual researchers, national and international research projects, communities and infrastructures access to infrastructure and platform services, dedicated user support and training.

EGI compute infrastructure provides fast and flexible compute capacity to fit any research need, from Cloud compute to Cloud Container compute, and High-Throughput compute. Our Workload Manager ensure the computing tasks are managed and distributed efficiently, while maximising the use of resources.

EGI HTC federated infrastructure delivered more than 6.9 billion CPU hours in the last 12 months. Our Cloud computing services rely on more than 3 Millions virtual machines.

Run virtual machines on demand with complete control over computing resources

Run Docker containers in a lightweight virtualised environment

Execute thousands of computational tasks to analyse large datasets

Publish and access software efficiently across multiple sites

Compute orchestration

Our compute orchestration services allow you to easily manage your computing workload across the EGI distributed infrastructure.

Default SLA

If no other agreements are in place, services from the EGI Federation are delivered based on a default service level agreement (SLA).

Access policies

The EGI services can be accessed through the following access policies
1. Policy-based access

Users are granted access based on policies defined by the EGI resource providers or by the EGI Foundation; such policies usually apply to resources being offered with “sponsored use” to meet some national or EU level objective; for instance, a country may offer resources with “sponsored use” to support national researchers involved in international collaborations.

2. Wide access

Users can freely access scientific data and digital services provided by EGI resource providers.

3. Market-driven

Users can negotiate a fee to access services either directly with EGI resource providers or indirectly with the EGI Foundation.

Services allowing access to rival resources (e.g. computing capacity or storage space) are usually provided under a policy-based or market-driven access policy. Services allowing access to non-rival resources (e.g. software packages or scientific data) are usually provided under a wide access policy. All access policies may not be available for each and every resource, service or scientific data set.
